Late last year, Patoranking smartly tapped into a South African house subgenre on the rise, qgom, to deliver his last single of 2017, “Available” — a catchy track that was pretty much impossible to escape over the holidays.
“Available” does exactly what a qgom song is supposed to do: it makes you want to get up and dance. The subgenre is described as “a big bang which leaves you happy after it hits you”, and that’s what “Available” accomplishes.
So, while the lyrics are undeniably monotonous — the chorus is just Patoranking repeating “I’m available” over and over again — that doesn’t really matter when the beat by DJ Catzico and Vista is so toe-tappingly good.
The music video, on the other hand, is anything but monotonous. The incredible choreography aside, it really just feels like Clarence Peters is showing off, and it’s an absolute delight to watch. From great visual effects to stellar editing, the whole thing manages to make the song even more enjoyable.
